- Undergenre till heavy metal som uppkom på 1980-talet och som till sin karaktär är mycket perkussiv och aggressiv, särskilt i början med snabbt tempo och mycket nära speed metal-stilen. Kända företrädare är t.ex. Anthrax, Slayer och Megadeth.
